Avraham Nacher was born in New Jersey, and after living in Jerusalem moved to Ramat Beit Shemesh in 2014 with his family. His father, Stuart, is a photographer in his own right, and as a child Avraham fondly remembers his time in his father’s darkroom.
Avraham sees photography as an exercise in mindfulness, and he seeks out compositions that engage and encourage the viewer to look at the world in a fresh and exciting way. In his work, you will find a skillful use of a wide variety of photographic techniques that show his understanding of and sensitivity to the medium and his ability to capture the everyday world in a way that gives us a glimpse into the extraordinary all around us.

Playground Tunnel
As we journey through life, if we keep our eyes open we will begin to see patterns appear. And then just as we think we’ve figured it out, we are thrust into a new environment and must begin again. It may take time to see, but each set of patterns is beautiful and unique in its own way.
Wicker Chair in Black and White
True seeing is by learning how to unsee. Many times, what grabs our attention first is actually distracting us from seeing what is really there.
Jaffa Street Encounter
Every single person has a fascinating story to share. By taking a few moments to get to know someone, not only will you enrich your own life, but you will have brightened another person’s day.
The synergy and interaction between the subjects along with the arm directions and body postures create a circular rhythm that further emphasize the give and take nature of a conversation.
Skater Girl, Silhouette
Sometimes even when we are standing still, there is movement.
The combination of converging lines, high contrast, and Dutch style (rotating the horizon) used in this photo help keep the eye focused on the subject. The subject itself is also very intriguing as the silhouette emphasizes the half-moon shapes shared by both the bubble jacket and rollerblades.
Early Morning Preparations
A magical scene which gives the impression that the viewer is getting a glimpse into another world.
The effect the warm lights have on this scene not only create strong highlights and shadows to focus our eyes on the quiet activity on the boat, but their color also provides contrast to help further separate the boat from the cooler-colored background.
Capturing Memories
Brief moments captured in time sometimes become the most cherished memories in our lives.
By including in the photo the window of the ship, not only do we see the shot that this couple is taking to remember but the photo also captures the boating experience that brought them to that location.
The Champion Waits Her Turn
We all have dreams and aspirations. Sometimes all we can do is look on while we wait for our chance to step into the ring.
This is a photo of Nili Block, 4-time world champion kickboxer. I’ve always enjoyed capturing the energy and excitement of sports photography, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to be at one of her training sessions.
American Reflections
Seeing the inside of the farmhouse while simultaneously seeing another farmhouse in the window reflection is for me a statement about the multifaceted nature of people. No one sees the world 100% objectively, but rather through the influences of their past internalized experiences.
Faithful Friend
We all can benefit from having a faithful friend nearby. Someone who accompanies us as we travel through this world and is there to make the journey less lonely.
Given the calmness of the dog riding in the owner’s jacket, even though such a sight is rather unusual, this was obviously a common method that the two of them would travel.
Day’s End
Like a beautiful song that is ending, its final notes delicately fading into a still silence, so too is the day at twilight.
The branches in this photo are reminiscent of sheet music and the lone leaf and sun in bokeh as the last notes of the score.
A Matter of Perspective
A very powerful and symbolic photo: Two bags of opposite colors that have each endured their own individual pain and suffering. Now they find themselves together on a barbed wire fence. Shot with additional barbed wire and the heavens above, will they continue to face their challenges separately or see that they share much in common?
Glass Floors and Ceilings
There is nothing more reassuring than the solid ground we stand on – until we realize that it isn’t.
Similarly, there is nothing more discouraging than thinking our way is blocked – until we realize that it isn’t.
It’s not often we are able to see through the assumptions we’ve made to make sense of the world we live in. When life lets you in on one of its secrets, cherish it.
Golden Path
A golden path of shapes made by overlapping lights create the sense of being pulled through a tunnel towards a heavenly destination.
While my daughter is a master of ICM (intentional camera movement), it is something that doesn’t come as easy to me. At the Jerusalem Light Festival, there are many amazing opportunities for ICM photography and this is my favorite.
Purple Daisies
Purple daisies at various stages of bud blooming, representing the human striving for development and self-actualization.
Part of the beauty of this photo derives from the sharp definition of the flower and stem against the blurred background as well as how the petals are crowned by lighter areas in the background to really make the flowers stand out.
Airport Action
Using semi-reflective photography to blur the distinction between the real and the reflection.
This photo is a wonderful example of finding a different way to look at the world around us and encourage us to look at things in a new way. By using a window to merge the foreground with the reflection of the background, the viewer is required to carefully look at everything in the scene in order to make sense of the role each element plays in making up the composite image.
Ticket to the Twilight Zone
The eerie blue lighting inside the bus and the streaks resulting from the camera movement that give the feeling that the bus is speeding to an otherworldly destination.
Just like we are traveling around 1600 km/hr as the earth rapidly spins on its axis but do not perceive it because the speed is constant, so too we are surrounded by a limitless number of amazing sights and experiences, but because we see them all the time we have become blinded to them.
Arriving Departures
Life is a continuum of traveling from one destination to another.
The grid shape of the windows gives a feeling of rigidity and lack of movement, while the broad diagonal of the escalator that goes between the levels divides the photo into an almost yin yang symbol, hinting to the eternal cycle of coming and going.
Concert goer
A photo composed of two sections: the background has a colorful, illuminated stage with spotlights and sweeping beams of light; whereas the foreground is made up of crowds of people in silhouette. The lone audience member that is lifted up acts as the bridge between the two.
Restaurant Reflections
Windows reflecting at various angles show different views. Reminding us that how we see something is not the only way, and that by making even a small change we can gain a new perspective.
Strong lines and geometric shapes permeate this composition and provide a framework for the more organic elements that find their way into the photo.
